Today, we attempted to collate and synthesise our findings from yesterday’s research, while deciding on the topics we would pursue in our first stage of prototyping. I came into the session with a couple of very rough prototype sketches, focusing on the phantom hand illusion and of sensory deprivation; while we didn’t pursue the prototypes themselves, the idea of sight deprivation became an increasingly important theme.

We also noted down key themes surrounding proprioception from the previous day, and decided on the themes we would most like to focus upon. Through research, we had uncovered the relationship between the largely exteroceptive “gaze detection system” and a heightened sense of self-reference, which fed into the ideas of the overlap between interoception and exteroception that we had latched onto previously. This is the route we started to pursue for prototyping, and we made some shopping lists and sketches for simple prototypes to demonstrate the following day.
